Sheran King is a retired teacher from Fort McMurray Alberta. She taught all grades from grade 1 to 12 for 15 years of which 12 were spent as a grade 3 teacher. Some of her proudest memories are participating in the Music Festival every year, in the choral speech and recorder categories, coming second in the province one year! Every year her class also participated in fundraising activities to raise money for their annual three-day trip to Edmonton, where they visited numerous sites such as Fort Edmonton, The Valley Zoo, The Space and Science Center, The Edmonton Museum, a Hutterite Colony, a Ukrainian village, and an ostrich farm to name a few. Sheran’s focus was always to provide an array of experiences for her students. This also included raising various animals; fish, guinea pigs, doves, rabbits, and hosting animals such as an iguana and two baby ostriches that stayed with them for 3 weeks. Her students were always performing at school events, going on field trips, hosting guest speakers, organizing a grade 3-6 noon hour chess club, monthly nutritional luncheons for parents, administrators, and school board members. They were often featured in the Fort McMurray Today Newspaper. Their Class Motto was “We work hard then we play hard.
